On Friday, May 13, 2011, Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education, introduced the Setting New Priorities in Education Spending Act (H.R. 1891). Former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan says he learned that Republicans are "far more effective" when they keep disagreements with President Donald Trump private, rather than airing them publicly. "Because if you go out and just fight in public, then you're not going to actually accomplish what you're trying to accomplish," Ryan said to PBS NewsHour managing editor and anchor Judy Woodruff in an interview at the 2019 Aspen Ideas Festival. Ryan, who said he had "plenty of arguments" over "lots of issues" with Trump, also cited the president's high approval ratings with Republican constituents as a political reality for GOP House members.
